Shawana McKinstry, Inspiring Entrepreneur

Meet Shawana McKinstry, owner of

Sweet Magnolia Wax & Co; a hand-crafted wax company, based out of Roanoke, Virginia.

Shawana, along with her husband, daughter, and son, started Sweet Magnolia Wax & Co during the pandemic as a method of doing something together and "keeping sane" in the midst of everything. "We love smells and loved to be together, so we decided to make candles. After I lost my eyesight and independence it all made sense and here we are. We love to make all natural products and see the smiles on people face when they receive their wax melts."

What has been the most important factor behind your success?

My faith in God! With every obstacle that have been thrown my way i still kept the faith. I learned to trust in Him and lean on His word. His word is what fuels me and gives me hope.

Tell us more about your inspiration. Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My son is my biggest inspiration. At the age of 2 yrs old he was in an out of the hospital, but through it all he has had the biggest smile on his face. His perseverance has taught me to be still and know that God is in control. His story alone is powerful and for him to now be 11 yrs old and still smiling, I have learned not complain. I have my days, but I look at him and get my butt up and make it happen. Even after I lost my eyesight.

Tell our readers something amazingly fun about you?

This one is hard because the only funny thing is that I'm versatile. I can sing draw and love math.
